Alocasia is a genus of about 70 species that naturally occurs in tropical regions of Asia, mainly in Malay Archipelago. In Europe Alocasia is grown as greenhouse or indoor plant for its beautiful, glossy heart-shaped leaves. It requires high humidity and temperatures close to tropical: 23 – 28oC in summer and 18 – 20 oC in the winter. Alocasia grows best in rich, humusy and slightly acidic soils. It likes diffuse, not too intensive light, so should be kept away from direct sunlight.
